GM To Recall 107 Bolt Electric Vehicles in The U.S.

According to media reports, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on November 5 that General Motors (GM) will recall 107 Bolt EV and EUV vehicles in the U.S. due to a fire risk.

The recall affects 2020 to 2022 Bolt models that had previously undergone repairs. NHTSA stated that the installation of advanced diagnostic software in these vehicles may have failed, potentially creating a fire risk when the battery is fully charged or nearly full.

In its recall report, numbered 24V-812, NHTSA explained, "If the remedial software from NHTSA Recall 21V650 was not correctly installed, the vehicle may fail to identify defective battery modules that require replacement, thereby increasing the potential risk of a vehicle fire."

NHTSA has advised owners of affected vehicles to take precautionary measures, such as limiting the battery charge level to below 90%, avoiding depletion to under 70 miles of range, and refraining from charging indoors overnight.

Previously, GM had conducted three recalls for Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV models due to fire risks, affecting a total of approximately 142,000 vehicles. The company was also forced to halt production of the Chevrolet Bolt in 2021, subsequently facing a class-action lawsuit and reaching a settlement with owners earlier this year.
